1&1 wins again! The 1&1 Cloud Server ranks first in the Cloud Spectator Benchmark 2017

Last month, the American analyst institution Cloud Spectator released their 2017 comparison of the biggest and most important cloud service providers in North America. The companies profiled included well-known brands such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. In their “Top 10 Cloud IaaS Providers Benchmark 2017“the company analysed the price/performance ratio of the providers´ solutions.

Overall, the test ranked 1&1 in first place for the second year in a row! In this blog post we will provide some more detail on how we achieved this outstanding result.

Cloud Spectator ranked all the companies surveyed based on the following criteria:

  • All companies needed to have at least one data centre within North America – regardless of the location of their headquarters
  • The company’s cloud services needed to be available online for customers to purchase independently
  • Customers needed to be able to administrate and implement the cloud service on their own via an online portal
  • Cloud services billing needed to occur at least once an hour
  • All systems were required to have persistent block storage

The testing procedure

Cloud Spectator tested four different sizes of each cloud provider (from 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk up to 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB). For each server, three VMs were used and continuously pinged over a period of 24 hours in order to generate valid results. All of this was done without the prior knowledge of the service providers – in order to eliminate any outsider influencing of the results. Following this analysis, Cloud Spectator provided each company with a CloudSpecs score out of 100. Here 1&1 achieved the highest score of 100, making us the highest ranked cloud service provider. According to Cloud Spectator, they were most impressed with 1&1 because of our VM performance and our competitive price.

1&1 were able to achieve this fantastic and ultimately unbeatable result because we offer premium hardware at a competitive price. Alongside this Intel Xeon processors, virtualisation software from VMware or SSD storage from NetApp SolidFire for example are part of the basic setup of every VM and enable every customer of the 1&1 Cloud Server to get the most out of their project.
