Achieve the right category structure for your online store

By ensuring a clear structure you can help visitors find their way and so make the shopping experience an optimal one.

Every online shopper has a particular aim in mind. Susan, for example, seeks the very best price for a new iPhone. Ben is on the hunt for a low-cost kettle with a 1.7 litre capacity, while Mike is looking for an up-to-date electronic item as a birthday gift. Although all three customers have different ideas, they’re all pursuing the same goal: to find the right product as quickly as possible.

Consumer expectations are increasing all the time. What should merchants consider if they are to beat their competition?

Nowadays it can be challenging for online retailers to identify a genuine product niche. Particularly important in this context is what is termed the ‘buyer experience’, which depends largely on an appealing shop design. Design trends can come and go – what’s seen as trendy today can very soon start to look dated or tired. However, below we highlight the design fundaments that have stood the test of time, and have a real business case to them:

Few would doubt that small business owners today are working harder than ever before, hence their taking a holiday is well deserved and essential to recharge the batteries.  However, this Summer sees many stressed business owners on the beach.

According to research, two thirds of business owners report that their holidays have been negatively impacted by their work.  Some 42 per cent report that they have been too worried about work to relax and enjoy their holiday, and 18 per cent of owners admit that they have argued with partners or family as a result of handling work whilst on holiday.

The pay-per-use server revolution

The key to cloud

One of the revolutions that the Cloud has ushered in is ‘pay per use’ and small and medium sized enterprises benefit enormously from this model. This means only paying for what we actually consume and use. In a traditional architecture model, users used to pay for a fixed package of IT resources, even if they only used a reduced percentage of its capacity.

This ability was not possible in a traditional model, based on predicted use and consumption, as one had to analyse needs carefully, and negotiate the best deal on capacity before hiring a service and then seek to achieve ROI on the total cost. Such a process is more agile with Cloud servers as the ‘capital expenditure’ (CAPEX) is changing into ‘operational expenditure’ (OPEX). As a result, infrastructure costs can now stay totally transparent and administrators remain in full control of any costs incurred, backed by billing that provides full clarity regarding the investment in resources that each project requires.

Addressing the myths behind security and the Cloud

Even in 2015, many people thinking of migrating data to the Cloud still ask the same question: is it safe? This concern is of course not new. Some years ago, eCommerce had to fight claims that entering credit card data was not secure but nowadays very few people question the trustworthiness of online shopping.

The truth is that the Cloud is even safer than a traditional environment – this is because hosting providers implement a wide range of measures to guarantee its security in terms of availability and data security itself. Users can rest assured because, for example, 1&1’s data centres apply multiple levels of security measures at a design and physical level.

1&1 launches .WALES domains amid St. David’s Day celebrations

Wales-and-Cymru-Domains

Nominet has just launched two brand new domain name endings especially created for the Welsh Internet community – .Cymru and .Wales – now available to everyone. Over the next few days, we will be showcasing some of the first 1&1 .Wales registrants, and sharing their ambitions for their new .Wales Web identity.

Hot on the heels of recent .London and .Scot domain launches, the case for .Wales is clear. New research commissioned by Nominet, the registry that provides the .Wales domain, shows significant interest in the new online home for Wales, with two-thirds (65%) of adults in the country saying they would want to highlight their Welsh connections through a dedicated .Cymru or .Wales domain name if they were launching a new personal or business website. Previous research from Nominet found that 70% of consumers and 59% of businesses in Wales believe it should have its own domain space, bringing it into line with other countries across the world.
